About the event
Piyalbajarri is a collaboration between Thiinma Elder Peter Salmon and his friend, performer and linguist Rosie Sitorus.
Mr Salmon is a 92-year-old stockman from the Gascoyne (who now divides his time between Dongara, Newman and Broome) and the last speaker of the Thiinma language.
Piyalbajarri is about Mr Salmon sharing his stories onstage with Rosie and members of his family.
Piyalbajarri offers something genuinely special - the chance to hear from the only living speaker of a critically endangered language, in a warm, funny and relaxed setting. It offers a glimpse into Australia's precolonial history and celebrates a Western Australian icon.
