The Librarian of Basra
Hypertheatre, dancer Nari Lees and Albany musicians The Lonely Brothers will stage their production 'The Librarian of Basra' only once in Denmark on Sunday 10th August 2008, before they tour to the Darwin Festival in less than two weeks. 'The Librarian of Basra' is an adaption of a children's book by American author Jeanette Winter. The book is based on the true story of Alia Mohammed Baker's herioc efforts to save Basra Library's priceless collection during the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
The Librarian of Basra is a smoke, alcohol and drug free event proudly sponsored by Country Arts WA and by Healthway to promote the Drug Aware message.Hip Hopera - performed in Denmark, Albany, Mt Barker, Gnowangarup, 2005Since its inception in 1998 hypertheatre has provided an unique brand contemporary theatre focused on the Great Southern Region of WA.
In 2003 hypertheatre was one of just 7 regional theatre companies in Australia to have received a Regional Theatre Development Initiative grant from the Australia Council for the Arts for its Hyper-space project.
Hyper-space aims to take hypertheatre to a higher level of professionalism in vital, innovative and sustainable regional theatre.
hypertheatre engaged an organisational development consultant Tony Duckett and three project support officers Paul Doquile, David Nile and James (Fish) Gill. Over six months they worked to define and refine the company’s strategic, business and artistic planning processes.
The company’s new structure and vision was unveiled at Launch into Hyper-space at the opening of Denmark Arts’ Brave New Works XI Festival over the Easter weekend 2004.
