WA Artist Cecile Williams has been collecting stories from residents of Christmas Island, Australia's most remote and isolated territory, focussing on the Malay and Chinese population, whilst gathering the abundant plastic waste and relics which wash up on the shore. This exhibition is about an ongoing collective conversation, an intricate labyrinth of visual tales; relevant questions and open answers. William’s pieces celebrate the richness of the Malay and Chinese people on the island, and also explores the island as it is today, with humility and humour. Each piece is constructed of found objects, flotsam and jetsam of the Indian Ocean, and transformed into miniature worlds which encourage acts of engagement and exploration by the viewer, drawing them into the story held within each totem of plastic containers.
