Clare Sharp
The Knitting Lady
As a single mum in 2004 I used to attend Centrelink to report my fortnightly earnings and would always knit whilst in the queue. Before long I was known as The Knitting Lady.
My shawls and scarves are made by hand with love. They are unique and totally individual just like my clients. Having sat on my knee for 4 - 6 hours I lovingly name each shawl with their own special name, giving them their own individual character. We sit as a famil and pick the shawls name if it haven't intuitively come to me. The names are recorded in a book and they are photographed never to be repeated.
Some of the ways to wear my shawls are the poncho style, draped over the shoulders for the evening wear, tied behind the back or as a scarf. I have at least six different ways to wear my shawls and customers come up with their own unique style as well. They are so versatile dressing up for a wedding or just travelling on a plane.
I have two collections a year and my winter collection was lanched at the Wagin Woolarama and I have some gorgeous yarns and delicious colours to share wiyh you. I have been knitting with Australian wool and mohair which creates a luscious tecture. There are polyesters and acrylics for thse of you who do not indulge in wool with some wonderful autumnal clours for you to choose from.
I am passionate about colour having studied Colour & Conciousness and with my background as a practitioner of Aura-Soma (a colour healing madality), knitting is my way of bringing the healing power of colour to my customers.
