Edith Lehmann

My art practice consists of bookbinding and various textile media, mainly patchwork and felting.

My bookbinding adventure began when I became dissatisfied with the journals I bought from the art shop, and thought "I can make my own."

My bookbinding skills are mostly self taught, although I did do a BA in Fine Art, majoring in painting and life drawing.

Over several years of experimentation I am discovering which methods produce the most durable, practical and beautiful books.

A number of years ago I found myself in a bored housewife phase, and took up quiltmaking on an intuitive whim after reading a book about the Amish People. That developed into making patchwork book bags to keep journals safe in.

No matter what medium I am working with, my biggest love is always Colour. It's about the different meanings and significances of all the colours, being different aspects of the same Light.
