Dyscord and the Great Southern Experience

Dyscord and the Great Southern Experience is an event for the young metal heads of the Great Southern. On Saturday 20 September Dyscord will be wowing Denmark with FREE WORKSHOPS as well as an amazing performance supported by local young artists Hells of Iron and Twisted Logik.

Colin Offord in Concert
Saturday 27 September, Anglican Church, 7pm
Colin Offord is a singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and inventor of original instruments. He sings in a rich voice of exceptional range that combines song forms and vocal improvisation. Colin accompanies his voice with the most noted of his many instruments, the “Great Island Mouthbow”, a complex string instrument that can be bowed, plucked and played percussively. The Anglican Church’s accoustic qualities will allow his music to be presented in the best possible way. Limited seating at this venue. Aperitif

All Denmark residents and visitors are invited to partake in “Aperitif” a showcase of Denmark's vibrant art community. Denmark artists will be exhibiting in over 20 venues as part of ArtsouthWA’s Great Southern Art Trail. Aperitif will provide a sample of the varied work of Denmark artists participating in this year’s Trail. It’s a great place to start your Trail experience and plan which exhibitions you will go to next. Co-ordinated by Melanie McKenzie and the Denmark Arts Visual Arts Sub-committee, Aperitif is a joint partnership of Denmark Arts and the Denmark Visitor Centre.

Silverstream Wines – Great Southern Art Trail

You are invited to celebrate the release of Silverstream Wines 2008 Cabernet Franc Rose which also coincides with their participation in the Great Sothern Art Trail. This year they will be displaying art from Donna Williams (Tjorlian). Silverstream donates $1 from every purchase to “Hope for Children”. A grass roots community based organisation offering children affected by aids in Ethiopia a chance of a better life.
Seeking Volunteers for Exhibition roster

Gwen Gibbons is seeking volunteers to fill her desk roster for the Viewpoint 20th year Exhibition "Extracting the Essence" exhibition being held at the Vancouver Art Centre in Albany on the above dates.

Done in idiosyncratic Moncrieff style, this exhibition of assembled paintings explores the relationship between the land and herd animals. The collection reflects an immediate response to life and living in Kentdale, a rural district located between Denmark and Walpole on the south coast of Western Australia. The exhibition closes on Sunday 12 October. Gallery opening times are 11am-5pm Tues-Sun and Monday public holidays.

FREE Sound Workshop
1 – 4pm, Wednesday 3rd September
MIX Artists, an artist collective based in Albany, in partnership with the Vancouver Arts Centre, wish to invite interested people to contribute to an Albany sound work that will be presented at the Sonic Seeding exhibition for the Perth International Arts Festival in February 2009.
You will be introduced to recording techniques and ways of working with incidental sound to develop a unique and distinctly Great Southern sound work. You will have the opportunity to work with established artists who will share their knowledge and skills. Numbers are limited so bookings are essential. To book call 9841 9260.

Design as performance workshop with Claude Marcos
9am – 12pm Monday 29 September to Friday 3 October
This workshop will focus on understanding the role of theatre design in contemporary performance. This workshop is aimed at helping participants understand the basics of stage design but more specifically attempts to highlight the power gained from understanding how a visual and spatial understanding of text can truly inform the direction of a production.

Sprung Writers Festival 2008, Albany
19 - 21 September 2008
Albany's Sprung festival for readers and writers marks its ninth outing with a sexy and socially aware program. Leading Australian socialcommentator Hugh Mackay, novelist Tobsha Learner, the multi-talented Wendy Harmer and children's author Elizabeth Honey lead the line-up. They are supported by first-time author and sharp-eyed chronicler of the end of whaling Chris Pash, whose book The Last Whale will be launched at the festival. Also on the program are: poets Dennis Haskell, Barbara Temperton and Maree Dawes; Noongar author Eric Hayward; songwriter and musician Geoff Waldeck; performance poets Vivienne Glance and Hypertheatre; along with regular MCs Glenn Swift and Jon Doust. www.sprung.albany.wa.gov.au
The Beltane Wickerman Festival
